New Year, New Resolutions! Welcome to 2016

Happy New Year!

I love the start of a new year. I like having a chance to reflect on the previous year - on everything I've done, accomplished, and learned - and to look forward to all of the exciting things coming up and what I would like to focus on.

As someone who enjoys making lists - and checking things off of them, I love to write down my goals for the year. This year, I'm writing them down in my planner under the categories of personal goals, heart and spirit goals, financial goals, and work, career, or study goals.

Personal Goals

For my personal goals, I want to take care of my body by staying active and strong. I want to stay hydrated by drinking the recommended amount of water each day. I also want to stay organized and explore my creative side.

Heart and Spirit Goals

This year I really want to focus on what God has planned for my life. I want to build my relationship with Him and learn to rely on Him more.

Financial Goals

It's important to me to work hard and to be financially responsible. I learned that 20% of your income should go to savings, so this year I want to make a more conscious effort to save money.

Work, Career, or Study Goals

For my work goals, I want to continue to have experiences that benefit my professional development and build my resume. I also want to stay on top of all of my school assignments and work ahead.

Southern Hospitality and Last Minute Game Day Outfits

In an amazing display of southern hospitality and SEC sportsmanship, LSU opened up Death Valley to the South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend.

Due to the massive amount of flooding that occurred in South Carolina last week, the match-up between the Tigers and the Gamecocks had to be moved just a few days before kickoff.

The short-notice of the game change did not deter the university or the city of Baton Rouge from extending a warm welcome to our neighbors from South Carolina.

While this game did produce one of the smallest crowds that Tiger Stadium has ever seen, it did not prevent girls from pulling out all of the stops with their game day outfits and I was able to catch a few of my sorority sisters before they headed out to tailgate. They helped me show off some of the different ways you can style and outfit for a long day of LSU football.

Sorority Life: Planning a Philanthropic Fundraising Event

This past year I have been honored to serve as the Vice President of Philanthropy for my sorority, Delta Zeta. It is a position that I cherish because it enables me to serve my Baton Rouge community, help make a difference on a national level, and gain leadership experience within my organization.

One of my jobs as the VP of Philanthropy is planning and organizing fundraising events for Delta Zeta’s local and national philanthropies.

Locally, our chapter serves St. Lillian Academy, The Emerge Center, and Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area. Nationally Delta Zeta serves The Starkey Hearing Foundation and The Painted Turtle Camp. Every single DZ chapter is dedicated to supporting organizations that focus on speech and hearing disorders. Our chapter is extremely passionate about the organizations that we serve, so it is important for our fundraising events to be successful.

While event planning in itself can be a challenge, planning a philanthropic fundraising event for a sorority can be a daunting task. I have taken some time to briefly outline a few of the things that I have learned throughout this year. I’m not an expert and this is not a definitive list, but if you are unsure of where to begin, this may be helpful!
